Benjamin Cox – Executive Chairman, Director
Mr. Cox is the Managing Director of Oren Inc., a quant-focused merchant bank specializing in the qualitative deal analysis of base and ferrous metals projects and companies. Oren Inc.’s core business model is to find a high-quality project every one to three years and either work as an advisor or a principal in developing it to maturity. Oren Inc. also aggressively collect and analyze quantitative data for subscribers and clients. Prior to founding Oren Inc., Mr. Cox served as a Senior Metals & Mining Analyst for the Oculus Fund at the D.E. Shaw Group, where he focused primarily on large-cap metals and mining names, LME-traded commodities and the interaction between them. Currently, in addition to his role with Aston Bay, Mr. Cox serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Roche Bay plc, an iron ore mining company that also has leases in Nunavut, Canada. Mr. Cox holds a B.S. from Brandeis University and an M.B.A. from Portland State University.
Clifford Boychuk – Independent Director
Mr. Clifford P. Boychuk is currently President of a privately held exploration diamond core drilling company. He is a director of a publicly listed company and several private companies. He has been actively involved in mining exploration with his private companies and with investments in various junior exploration and mining companies. Previously Mr. Boychuk was the owner/operator of an oilfied service and manufacturing company, an aerial photography company, an aircraft sales company and a surplus equipment/steel demolition company. He has extensive building construction experience in Western Canada since 1966.
Jan-Erik Back – Independent Director
Mr. Back is currently Head of Commodities Investments for BTG Pactual Commodities, which is based in London. BTG Pactual Commodities is a global commodity trading firm owned by BTG Pactual, the largest investment banking and asset management group in Latin America. Prior to his current role, Mr. Back was Head of Investments for Reuben Brothers Resources, an international commodity trading and investment company owned by the Reuben Brothers Group. Mr. Back was also previously Managing Director of Hatch Corporate Finance, the corporate finance subsidiary of the Hatch Group, an international consulting and engineering firm focused on the metals and mining sectors.
Thomas Ullrich – Chief Executive Officer, Director
Mr. Ullrich has over 20 years experience in mineral exploration and geoscience. He has been Chief Geologist North America for Antofagasta Minerals plc since 2011, investigating the region’s copper potential through extensive property evaluations and management of drill programs in Alaska and Canada. Prior to Antofagasta, he was Senior Geologist for Almaden Minerals, where he managed the drill program for the team’s discovery of the Ixtaca Ag-Au deposit in Mexico. Mr. Ullrich also established the Ar-Ar geochronology lab at the University of British Columbia and studied the Candelaria Cu-Au mine, Chile, while at Queen’s University. Mr. Ullrich is an Elected Director on the Board of the Association for Mineral Exploration BC.
Michael Dufresne – Consultant, Primary Geologist, Director
Mr. Dufresne is the President of Apex Geoscience, a ~60-person geological consultancy. With over 25 years of professional experience in all aspects of project generation, geological interpretation and project management ranging from grass roots exploration projects up to feasibility staged project Mr. Dufresne has extensive experience with a wide range of commodities and types of deposits as well as involvement in a number of scientific government studies. Mr. Dufresne has conducted property audits across North America and Australia and authored independent technical reports. His client list has included senior and junior mining companies, and government geological surveys. Mr. Dufresne is a Professional Geologist with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (since 1989). He is also a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Geological Association of Canada, and Association of Exploration Geochemists. Mr. Dufresne obtained his M.Sc. in Economic Geology from the University of Alberta, and a. B.Sc. In Geology with a minor in Chemistry, from UNC-Wilmington.
Ian McPherson – Independent Director
A graduate of Queen’s University (1990), Mr. McPherson has broad business acumen, having worked extensively in branding, strategic planning, marketing and advertising in both domestic and international markets across diverse industry categories. He has served the junior resources sector in recent years in investor relations, corporate development and financing roles, most recently as the VP Communications for West Melville Metals Inc. and previously as the Director of Marketing for Aurora Mineral Resource Group and The Discovery Group of Companies.
John Hayes – Independent Advisor
Mr. John Hayes was, until his recent retirement, a Managing Director at BMO Capital Markets, which he
had joined in 2003. As a mining equity analyst, he covered precious and base metal companies globally
from the exploration to production stage. In addition to his work in capital markets, he has over 17 years
of geological experience ranging from regional surveys to advanced exploration. Mr. Hayes graduated
from Memorial University of Newfoundland with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geology (1989) and
a Master of Science in Geology (1997). He also holds an MBA from Dalhousie University (2003). He is a
member (P.Geo.) of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador.
